Living inside a sunlit forestscape

Anarr Gunjaria brings the art of landscaping inside an Ahmedabad home

Some homes are built beautifully and some designed diligently. Rarely, does design emerge in such conjunction with architecture and nature that it is hard to tell them apart. This 6,500 sq ft home in Ahmedabad by Anarr Gunjaria Interiors in collaboration with Architect Arpan Shah and Amit Modha for landscape is a lesson in creating evocative, picturesque homes.

Raw, earthy and resplendent with life, the home engulfs you with warmth and is akin to a walk through a lush forest. “Life in itself is a form of balance, between lightness and solidity, openness and enclosure, being present and timelessness. A carefully crafted home can enliven an inner sanctum for its inhabitants to forget time,” says principal designer Anarr Gunjaria of the eponymous firm.

The open-to-sky courtyard (a rarity in most homes), blends greens with darker elements of decor and seating, featuring the most stunning black stone artefact and a geometrical stone bench.

Open sky and homebound forests

Every part of the home offers a glimpse into another. The vestibule area sets up one for the sheer experience that the home encompasses – airy and bright, with art and light in the focus.

Walking into the formal living space to be surrounded by a sense of balance. Plush white couches, a wooden centre table and the concrete ceiling glow in the natural light. The dining area wears clean lines with a marble dining table surrounded by Saumya Bandyopadhya‘s charcoal artwork.

Open spaces done to perfection are the pieces of resistance of the home, with a verandah that opens up through both the dining and living spaces –  furnished with simple white and wood and subtle industrial black touches. Passing the most functional kitchen finished in white and grey, the powder room alludes to tropical times, with lots of green and grey bedecked with modern light fixtures and even more art.

Out of the five bedrooms in the home, three are on the first level, reflecting the material and design story of the rest of the home. A four-poster bed looks out into the dense water through the daughter’s room, suffice with wildlife photography on the walls. The bathrooms offer spa-like indulgence outfitted with custom fittings and marble (lots of it!). Unlike other spaces, blue fills up your vision in the family living room featuring a striking rug and a deep blue L-shaped couch. A visual treat is perhaps the lounge terrace, with brick-like flooring and a soft powder blue seating.

Nature’s sanctum

Encased in green, wood and concrete feel right at home with the juxtaposed landscaping and architecture.

Anarr establishes, “The interplay of form, colour and landscape evokes awe and appreciation for the beauty of nature in design.” Vivacious greens and taupe, white marble and pops of blue, grey concrete and black finishes – all blend inside this home that reads like a sunlit naturescape!
