Layers of arts and regality

This Gurugram residence by Aayushi Malik Designs is a bold composition of vivid artworks

There’s an undeniable allure and vibrancy attached to maximalist Indian homes—especially those rooted in a tropical aesthetic. Details crafted by Aayushi Malik Designs, this vastu-compliant home in Gurugram, spanning 3,000 sq. ft., stands as a stunning reminder of how spaces draped in stately designs and solid textures can be grand, grounding and graceful, all at the same time.

“The artworks feature bold, vivid colours. So we opted for a neutral backdrop that allows them to stand out. Instead of a stark white, we chose sophisticated grey tones for the walls” — Aayushi Malik

ALLURE OF THE ARTS

While it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what draws the most visual intrigue in this home, the Buddha painting—a prized purchase by the homeowner during her travels to Bali—certainly draws the spotlight in the dining area. An array of distinctive artworks are also thoughtfully framed, using a mix of brass and wooden borders.

“The artworks feature bold, vivid colours, so we opted for a neutral backdrop that allows them to stand out. Instead of  stark white, which can sometimes compete with bright colours, we chose sophisticated grey tones for the walls,” shares Aayushi Malik, Founder & Principal Designer.

LOOK, LAYERS!

Layering emerges as a consistent theme throughout the space. Hardwood floors merge seamlessly into checkered limestone tiles, while in upholstery, solid textured velvets mingle with hand-woven ikats, creating a striking pattern play. The lighting custom-made by local artisans in and around Delhi celebrates organic materials like rattan, raffia, and intricately carved Indian wood.

Strongly embodying a regal vibe, this is a home that’s brought to life with an overarching Indian design sensibility. The artwork on the left is by S Chandramohan; Photography by Tarang Goyal

REGALITY OF RAJASTHAN

A Rajasthan-inspired  aesthetic defines the outdoor lounge wrapped in tranquil hues of white and blue, and adorned with traditional stencil motifs on the walls and classic mudha seating featuring similar patterns.

“The outdoor lounge was the most enjoyable and the most challenging to design,” she reveals. “Its location in the northeast meant that it needed to remain open while harmonising with surrounding spaces,” concludes the designer, who envisioned this home as a creative playground where textures, artworks and artistic design styles shine collectively without losing individual appeal.
