A skincare sanctuary rises in Mumbai

Designed by SHROFFLEoN, FutureMe interprets skincare through light and divinity

BY

Composure is the key to the new FutureMe space in Breach Candy, Mumbai. A thoughtful space that recognises the strength of subtlety. Composed skincare does not always get noticed, but when combined with strong branding and a sense of luxury, it becomes convincing. This space is that balance. Designed by Kayzad Shroff and María Isabel Jiménez León of SHROFFLEoN, the interiors are a spatial translation of the brand’s philosophy. The branding is integrated into the architecture, making its presence felt through details rather than statements.

All features point to FutureMe’s conviction that luxury is best experienced when it is tempered. The design language is consistent with SHROFFLEoN’s design philosophy of geometric discipline, material sophistication and a focus on functional beauty. The result is a well-intentioned space that allows the brand’s ethos to inhabit it effortlessly.

Anointed in light

What does luxury look like when it chooses to be felt rather than flaunted? The new space for FutureMe responds with bedazzled and immersive attributes that reflect the philosophy of a soothing and nourishing skincare brand. Here, art and lighting come together to create a world that draws from diverse dimensions but is grounded in tranquillity. At its core is a custom-designed glass chandelier that serves as the emotional and visual centrepiece of the space. Kayzad Shroff had visualised a lighting fixture that takes inspiration from the crown of thorns that was placed on Jesus’ head with spikes that spread out in all directions, disturbing the notion of a perfect circle while radiating diffused light. Designed in collaboration with Arjun Rathi, the chandelier’s asymmetrical and crown-like shards dissolve the boundaries between sculptural art and lighting design, becoming a beacon that leads people into the contemplative world of FutureMe.

Over the communal dining space, a custom suspended installation by Priyanka Shah pays homage to the organic elements of Arayani, the first collection of the brand. Embroidered blinds with forest-inspired designs react to the changing light, while the plant-filled and backlit balconies project silhouettes of leaves, creating a forest in the midst of the concrete jungle. The space is now a sanctuary. As Supriya Mody, Founder & CEO of FutureMe, explains, “This space needed to reflect the soul of the brand. I wanted every explorer to feel empowered, almost divine in their own right.”

Designed on home turf

At FutureMe’s new destination, design and lifestyle are in perfect sync, with product and environment complementing each other in perfect harmony. Supriya Mody’s concept for the brand’s first experiential destination started the ball rolling, and SHROFFLEoN’s intelligent approach brought it to life. Every aspect of the space has been designed in India, from custom-designed furniture and embroidered textiles to hand-crafted surfaces, reflecting the same level of diligence that goes into FutureMe’s skincare products. In a world of luxury, where India is often underestimated for its ability to play at the same level as the best of the world, FutureMe goes about doing the exact opposite. It shows that luxury can be conceptualised, created and perfected in its entirety on home turf, and that’s what raises the bar.
