    Beige tones bask in sunlit glory at a Bengaluru home by Studio Goya

    It’s true that familiarity breeds comfort, which is probably why the classic beige palette of this home inspires feelings of restfulness. Everything about this 3,000 sq ft house is loveable, with a neutral palette, layered accents and thoughtfully sourced materials creating a world of soft embrace for its residents. 

    “The homeowners sought to create a space that radiates warmth and elegance, envisioning a nostalgic, experiential and timeless environment with an earthy touch,” says Akshita Mehra, Founder and Creative Director of Studio Goya. This very desire inspired her and her team, comprising Shreya Lal, Anmol Uppal and Sonya Verghese, to go back to the basics for this two-storey bungalow in Bengaluru. As a result, their design process took a tried and tested turn away from shallow trends to embrace an evergreen visual language.

    Colours of living

    As a result, their design process took a tried and tested turn away from shallow trends to embrace an evergreen visual language. With beige, black and pale hues of blue and green, the interiors were designed in a way that created a sense of space – to be filled by people and their memories. 

    The home opens into a compact foyer that flows into the formal living room. Here, clean lines and delicate detailing reflect the homeowners’ taste for sophistication. To the left, a corridor leads to the kitchen and an informal breakfast area connected to the formal living room through views of the common lower terrace.

    Fondly called the patio, this outdoor space fills the indoors with abundant natural light. This floor features the master bedroom, while the first floor features two adjacent rooms at the end of a long corridor. A balcony and an upper terrace provide extensions to the space, just as the lower terrace on the ground floor.

    Lessons in art and materials

    Throughout the home, sustainable materials married in an elegant fashion create a centred atmosphere. Think about the wooden and glass accents, for instance, which add an earthy depth to the contemporary design language. Or the bold blue hues of the kitchen that strike a chord of emotion amid the neutral tones of the breakfast area. If art is meant to make you feel something, this house is a lesson in artistry. Throughout the space, understated elements evoke distinct feelings, like the patio views from the informal dining area inspiring casual gatherings, or the prints and French accents adding a touch of carefree whimsy that makes a house feel like home.

    With each space boasting a unique layout tethered to a unified design scheme, the house celebrates cohesion while respecting privacy. While commonality maintains a familial touch in the space, distinctiveness adds an inviting attraction for those who visit and those who inhabit this soul-satisfying adobe.
