Creative liberty is a thing of astonishment. From that seed of an idea to its creation in real life, creativity can take you far and beyond any limit. When Vinithra Amarnathan of Weespaces chanced upon an old home in Bengaluru, the realisation of her design ingenuity is precisely what finally gave shape to her new office. Transforming an existing rental home into an up-and-running workspace in the Kumara Park neighbourhood redefines functionality in the new-age.
“The interesting part is that we were the clients and we had the freedom to design the space the way we wanted, while keeping within the constraints of what a rental would allow,” says Vinithra.
The many worlds of Weespaces
The workspace harbours a team of twelve and transitions into different settings and varied ambiences. Canvas-like white interiors, soft colours, grey window panes root for the brand’s design personality. While a standout colour theory drapes the many rooms and alcoves. Amidst the earthy tones, the designer does not shy away from using pops of colours — yellow being the studio’s favourite.
The office envelopes a foyer leading to a meeting room, founder’s room, main workspace, sample room and a powder room, eventually opening into a 300 sq ft terrace to spend some leisurely moments amidst the bustle of meetings and work conversations. “The design amalgamates art pieces, a Scandinavian colour palette with Japanese wabi sabi sensibilities. This mixture brings forth a calm, eclectic vibe that’s characteristic to us!” Vinithra expresses.
The many options available for seating make up intriguing conversational corners of the space. The chequered rug brings a playful mood to the space, along with caned jute chairs, sofas donning black and white stripes adding play to the overall setting.
Be seated or be floored
White being the preferred colour of continuity, the space incorporates powdered pastel blue walls, a quirky fun orange faucet-sink setup, a joyful yellow doorway, and many patterns that draw one’s attention.
While a small niche displays Vinithra’s favourite things inside the Founder’s room, she explains, “Continuing the nod to the blues, as you walk in, the warm space enveloped in a dusty blue is my work room. A large live edge slab of walnut wood forms the top of the custom desk with a set of floating drawers and sits in an angled manner against the window.”
“We have retained the old structure entirely and reused it as far as we could. From the flooring to the structure and woodwork, its old bones have been refreshed and reimagined and it being a rental, we broke away from luxury trends. We stayed true to our love for a simplistic and soulful design approach as it comes through with how the office feels,” says Vinithra.
Establishing a workspace that anyone would look forward to coming to and working at, Weespaces office is an extension of Vinithra’s design ethos enveloping co-workers in a warm hug of visual intervals.
