Ambiente Frankfurt 2024: The top highlights from the annual furniture and design fair

There’s inspiration everywhere you look. And this maxim is best exemplified at the leading global art and design fairs that connoisseurs await every year. From the grounds of Ambiente Frankfurt 2024, when the German city by the River Main was abuzz with dialogues on all things design and decoration, we bring you a delightful glance into the annual consumer goods fair hosted by Messe Frankfurt that runs the gamut of the finest finds in furniture, furnishings and decor accents.
New Talent
NAME PLACE ANIMAL THING
Bringing a slice of Indian craftsmanship to Germany, Priyam Doshi of Name Place Animal Thing, invited and hosted by Messe Frankfurt to Ambiente 2024, lays out a potpourri of lights that stand as artful statements day through night, such as the Quarry collection of lamps draped with thin stone sheets from Indian quarries, awarded at EDIDA India 2023. Alongside, mushroom lamps cloaked in hand-stitched fabric and plug-n-play lamp made of clay in collaboration with Pravaha, become luminous vanguards of the evolving, new-age crafts.

ATSUSHI SHINDO
A self-standing lamp shade dressed as a kimono? With gentle curves and a sturdy presence, the lighting inspired by Haori, the traditional Japanese Kimono, is crafted with perforated aluminium and in options like Kobe leather and upcycled Nunous fabric — imagined by Tokyo-based Atsushi Shindo, also discerned as the Young Japanese Design Talent for ELLE DECO International Design Awards (EDIDA) Japan 2023.

LUMERE
Mimicking the familiar frame of elegant, cylindrical glass bottles, the S’ENZA lamp imagined by Luca Ingenito quietly stands out with an intensely luminous appearance, contoured with aluminium on its edges and a crown-esque disc on the top, reminiscent of the bottle’s lid.

MASSIMO LUNARDON
A humorous reinterpretation of ocean-esque influences amassed from underwater, a curious and colourful collection of hand-blown glass decanters, carafes, bowls and trays unfurl ornamented with fish figurines.

After being decades out of production, the STOFF Nagel floor stand from the 1960s returns with its sculptural demeanour. With a gleaming polished frame made of zinc alloy, the poised stand can be adjusted with as many candle holders and effortlessly decorate the living spaces with its classic visual identity.

A poetry of flora, fauna and colours, Vista Alegre’s tableware centres itself with motifs that meld culture and art. The brand also present at Made in Portugal Naturally’s alcove at Ambiente, The Meaning Collection’s pieces interweave a story of a secret garden crafted with porcelain, crystal and earthenware as its material moodboard.
