4 Indian designers that are on our radar at the latest edition of Maison&Objet fair 2019

Art and design aficionados, rejoice! Maison&Objet 2019 is back with another exciting season of their much-anticipated design fair commencing from the 6th of September. The week-long event offers an assortment of products mapping from decor to design, furniture, accessories, textiles and even fragrances. The show embodies marvellous diversity which falls in line with the expectations of the global market and this year it the star-studded show feature a number of acclaimed Indian designers showcasing their pieces. We have our eyes on these creative powerhouses:1. Jaipur Rugs A family-run entity, their business is strengthened by the purpose of protecting ancestral know-how and connecting rural craftsmanship with global consumers. By placing the human aspect at its core, the company has grown to become the largest network of artisans in India. The brand has collaborated with Italian designer Matteo Cibic to create a pop, graphical and colourful collection of rugs that depict phantasmagorical India. Jaipur rugs will also showcase designs by in-house designer Kavi and celebrity designer Gauri Khan at the show. 2. ShazeBreaking the mundane rules, Shaze delves deeper into the world of design with every piece they craft. Their exclusive collection of design-led home decor premiums epitomize a mystifying assemble of form, function and finish, brightening every experience. At the Maison&Objet fair this year, Shaze will host a collection of barware and brew-ware crafted by international design icon Seymourpowell that depict minimalistic flamboyance.3. Asian Heritage FoundationThe Asian Heritage Foundation (AHF) helmed by Rajeev Sethi is avant-garde in catering to special design-led building training to rural artisans, with traditional knowledge systems in India and has expertise in creating linkages at various international platforms. Since its inception, the aim of this organization has been to focus on the development of rural communities who are often at the bottom of the food chain. The foundation’s project at the fair this year will focus on creating inclusive business models for marginalized tribal communities in Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. The project gives a platform for artisans and designers to co-create using hand skills to develop innovative products for local, contemporary urban and international markets thereby fostering sustainable livelihoods. These pieces will feature materials like natural fabrics and the winding coils that make the grass sculpted lights.4. Silaiwali This sensational dollmaking organization breaks the mould with its rag dolls meticulously designed and handpicked from Indian cotton waste fabric. Crafted by Afghan woman refugees in India, the artisans weave their magic on these rag dolls in varying skin tones, celebrating cultural diversity. The interesting items also include an engaging product-tag that unveils an embedded video that kindles an emotional relationship between the craftsperson and the consumer. The New Delhi-based social enterprise will be exhibiting the dolls along with a few of their featured items at Maison&Objet 2019.
