Order Online: Fresh Menu now in Mumbai
OCT 27, 2015 | By Aditi Sharma Maheshwari
It’s an urban trend now – online delivery services that claim to serve only healthy “home cooked” or “home styles” food. We decided to try out Fresh Menu, which started out in Bengaluru and has just launched in Mumbai. Founded by Bengaluru based entrepreneur, Rashmi Daga, Fresh Menu somehow stands out with its USP of a different menu everyday.
In the offering are lunch, dinner, all day sandwiches, salads and desserts and generic categories of cuisines like Italian, Mexican, Mediterranean and Indian. Currently serving in Powai, Chandivali and Andheri (E), the company has just broadened its network to include BKC, Santacruz (E), Worli and Lower Parel and are also set up in Gurgaon. We tested their service to see whether the food is fresh as their name and USP.
First impression and serviceThe menu can be accessed on their website or via iOS or Android app. Post placing the order, we were promised delivery in 30 minutes…an email was sent with our order details, and a follow up mail and SMS about the status of the delivery – very prompt!
As promised, our food arrived on time by a friendly delivery boy. We wished they chose a healthier packaging option though – the plastic box with a transparent lid was a let-down visually. As we opened the boxes, the meal looked and smelled promising.
The food Most dishes are priced between Rs 150 and 600 and the portion size of each is apt for one person. We loved the Chicken Quesadillas (Rs 150) – red kidney beans, sweet and sour peppers and strips of chicken all folded together in the soft corn bread, served with sour cream and tomato salsa dips, made the dish a clear winner.
Veggie Dumplings in Black Pepper Sauce with Rice (Rs 200) too was quite satisfying. The dumplings made with carrot, broccoli, baby corn, cabbage, ginger and chili, well-cooked rice and oriental pepper sauce worked well together as a cohesive, filling meal.
The Cajun Paneer and Veggie Wraps (Rs 120) were light – a good no-nonsense option for when you aren’t craving for a big meal. The overtly sweet Penne Putanesca (Rs 200) was the only downer; we wish the pasta was more moist and the sauce less tomato-ey….
ED’s final verdict
Economical, tasty and hygienic, Fresh Menu is a food service that is prompt and easy to use; so corporates and those with erratic work schedules should give this a go. The concept of a different menu everyday weeds out repetitive dishes, enabling you choose something different from a different cuisine every single day. Prepared with freshly sourced ingredients, the company also guarantees food within 45 minutes of placing the order. So what’s not to like? Click, dig in and enjoy.
