HTL reframes the furniture buying experience in India

Its global brands: Domicil, Fabbrica and Corium, bring together thoughtful design, craftsmanship and experiential retail for Indian households

What happens when design crosses borders without losing its accent?

When HTL made its Indian debut in late 2022, it did more than enter a new market. It arrived with three international furniture brands, each with a distinct design language and a shared commitment to European craftsmanship. Domicil and Fabbrica from Germany, alongside Corium from Italy, introduced Indian audiences to furniture shaped by material intelligence, cultural depth and modern sophistication.

Their arrival coincided with a moment of recalibration within India’s furniture landscape. As discerning consumers began to seek experiences rather than transactions, HTL responded by reimagining how global design is encountered. The brands established immersive shop-in-shop environments within trusted retail destinations, allowing furniture to unfold as complete design narratives rather than isolated pieces. Spanning over 5,000 sq ft, these spaces now extend across 32 stores in 15 cities. By presenting international design through distinct yet complementary perspectives, HTL demonstrates that great design, much like compelling ideas, transcends geography while remaining deeply rooted in its origins.

Form fluency

Can three brands speak different languages and still finish each other’s sentences? At HTL, design moves fluidly across cultures. Founded in Germany in 1978, Domicil is shaped by the rhythms of nature and changing seasons. Its collections are warm, expressive and thoughtfully composed, reflecting a sensitivity to material and form.

Fabbrica, established in Munich in 1998, addresses a younger, urban sensibility. Guided by the belief that good design should be accessible, the brand favours clean lines, people-centred layouts and an atmosphere of ease suited to contemporary living.

Completing the dialogue is Corium Italia, where Italian craftsmanship comes to the fore. Sculptural curves, refined detailing and the use of polished metal and stone define Corium’s design language, bringing a measured sense of expression rooted in heritage.

Furniture felt first

Positioning furniture as an experience rather than a statement, HTL unveiled its flagship experience centre in Bengaluru earlier this year. Spanning 17,000 square feet at Bhartiya Mall, the company-owned space allows visitors to move through the worlds of Domicil, Fabbrica and Corium with ease, engaging with each brand in an intuitive, immersive manner. The centre showcases sofas, recliners, beds and dining collections, supported by more than 100 upholstery options that encourage personalisation and hands-on exploration.

German clarity informs the warm, matte-toned zones dedicated to Domicil and Fabbrica, where form and function work in quiet alignment. Corium transitions the narrative into an Italian setting, defined by sculptural silhouettes and soft lighting that draws attention to material depth. As Manoj Kumar Nair, Country Head for India, Middle East and Africa, observes, furniture buying in India is an emotional, collective process. By bringing three distinct brands together under one roof, HTL has not only created a flagship store but also a considered journey that makes international design more accessible and meaningful for Indian homes.
