In the verdant neighbourhood of Five Gardens close to Kings Circle in Mumbai, a 2,500 sq ft apartment on the 13th floor sets itself as an example of design duality. Thoughtfully crafted by Kiran Gala and Associates’ Sonam Gala Gosalia and Kiran Gala, the home transpires as an entertainment-centric spin to its turns and corners that lend a refreshing shift to the idea of a modern luxury apartment.

With adaptability at its core, the residence showcases warm, tactile elements that foster an inviting ambience while retaining an essence of subtle luxury, where 12 ft high ceilings elevate the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Tale of two styles

“The family’s house above designed by us is very contemporary and luxurious. They wanted a completely different concept with simple and earthy elements,” explains Sonam, noting that this level, intended for entertainment, needed to resonate distinctly as a mood board. The resulting design incorporates a warm, natural colour scheme while integrating opulent elements that enhance the overall visual appeal.

A journey within

The residence reveals an extensive living space and an open dining area, captivating the gaze towards a balcony that highlights verdant views. The ceiling captures interest with its timber beams and creative indirect lighting, a conscious departure from conventional chandeliers. A kitchenette and storage room guide one to the master bedroom, which features its own balcony and a walk-in wardrobe linked to an ensuite. The opposite side contains a utility room and a guest bedroom.

Earthy elements

Grey floor tiles, taupe stucco paint, and beige veneer form a monochrome shell that acts as a canvas for more vibrant elements. The master bedroom combines wooden flooring with travertine marble and fluted panelling, while the guest room showcases a striped wallpaper. Brass details and thoughtfully selected blues and rust tones ensure the earthy palette remains engaging.

Designer’s canvas

The dining area serves as the success of the design team, featuring a credenza built around a SMEG refrigerator showcased akin to a collectable. This meticulous attention to detail extends to the dining table — ingeniously crafted from leftover travertine marble.

The area is additionally enhanced by works from esteemed artists including Manu Parekh, Tanya Goel and Nikhil Chopra, along with thoughtfully curated pieces from Mason Sia and Pottery Barn. Custom furniture from Within and Gulmohar Lane rounds out this elegant setting, demonstrating that simplicity when carefully executed, can represent the highest form of luxury.
