If you’ve ever been bitten by the travel bug, chances are you’re more than familiar with the Greek island of Mykonos. The city’s pristine white buildings with blue doors find an echo within this 3,000 sq ft Mumbai home crafted by Saloni Narayankar Interiors. Borne out of the homeowners’ love for all things timeless, the interiors reveal a quiet, Mediterranean serenity.
Functional at heart with an eye for art, the home is a mindful exercise in designing a minimalist space filled with character. The home stays true to Saloni’s penchant for modern yet eclectic interiors — a signature the principal designer is renowned for across her decade-long career.
The power of intentional design
A brilliant blue door greets visitors at the entrance. Beyond, it becomes evident that the home’s contemporary visual language has a soft spot for vintage-inspired accents. Case in point, the foyer welcomes visitors with a striking display of antique glass panelling. The kitchen pivots away from the blues and introduces a refreshing pop of green instead.
Opposite the kitchen lays a room Saloni adoringly refers to as “The heart of the home.” The space in question is the home’s living room, featuring plush sofas and refurbished furniture upholstered with a varied array of patterns. In tandem with the homeowner’s love for art, one can spot many canvases decorating the walls. The built-in TV cabinet makes space for cherished collectables and decor pieces alike.
But that’s not all. The living space includes a bar space complete with a counter, shelves and high chairs. Featuring fluted stripes and blue arches, the homeowner’s liquor collection occupies pride of place beyond the counters. The master bedroom harbours a similar colour palette, swapping stripes for minimalist wall mouldings. Functional, calming and yet true to the home’s love for art — as the sculptural wall scones and art within proves.
For the love of colour
Amidst a sea of calming white, these pops of blue consistently reappear in the spaces within — enlivening the home’s tranquil interiors. This intentional colour palette lets the layers of prints, textures and materials shine unabashedly.
The home is a lesson in balancing the homeowner’s needs with their wants — emerging as both a restful sanctuary and an art-filled haven, all in one. True to their personality, and yet imbued with a timeless appeal.
