Situated on the serene grounds of the Mayfair Golf Course, Raipur, this residential project by B A S I C S  Studio is a thoughtfully designed retreat offering tranquillity and elegance. Spanning 5,800 sq ft, the house draws inspiration from Zen principles, creating an environment of harmony and connection to nature.

Focused on evoking a sense of tranquillity and peace, the design incorporates Wabi-Sabi elements – white walls and furnishings, warm textures and lots of greens. The use of materials such as terracotta and vernacular Indian stones adds an earthy, rustic touch to the space. Steering away from gilded glamour, the space radiates opulence in minimalism.

A serene journey

The entrance sets a calming tone, with views of peaceful courtyards framed by rustic brick walls. Throughout, the interiors showcase a blend of style and craftsmanship. Terracotta plates climb the living room walls and ceiling, while the floors combine stone tiles with Spanish accents for a touch of character.

The living room opens to both a courtyard and a serene swimming pool, while a passage with wooden rafters and Indian marble flooring adds an element of heritage. A tree sits in the middle of the courtyard while a stunning light feature hangs from the ceiling. The kitchen features a unique terracotta counter, topped with white marble and a stunning herringbone pattern in green tiles as the backdrop.

The staircase leading to the upper floor features a striking terracotta colour finish on the handrail. The space is flooded with natural light filtering through the glass bricks fixed into the fenestration.

The first-floor lounge offers an inviting space for relaxation, highlighted by a bold tangerine hue. A home theatre provides a cinematic escape while opening up to the balcony that overlooks the lush golf course. With a backdrop featuring art-deco-inspired elements, the bar becomes the focal point of the space.

The master bedroom, a blend of classic and contemporary design, features flooring in yellow Jaisalmer stone with traditional niches complementing the same yellow shade carved out of the wall. Natural light flows into the spa-inspired master bathroom through glass blocks, enhancing its calming ambiance.

The children’s bedroom introduces a playful aesthetic with a green feature wall, a curvilinear wicker headboard and custom marble accents. Following the minimalistic palette of the home, the warmth of earthy, rustic tones set the backdrop for the space. On the upper floor, a yoga space with a sloping roof provides sweeping views of the surrounding forest. The space is white and minimal, aiding the meditative qualities of the space.

The powder bathroom features a dramatic and playful shift from the overall language of the home with a stunning marine-inspired wallpaper on top of a solid aqua-blue coloured dado. The hexagonal black and white tiled flooring compliments the extravagant theme of the space.
