The Pure Concept Home’s Chanya Kaur brings texture and style to life in this Mumbai office

JAN 14, 2025 | By Team ELLE DECOR India

The GM Syntex headquarters in Mumbai, designed by Chanya Kaur of The Pure Concept Home, epitomises contemporary design through its emphasis on textures and textiles. Spanning 20,000 sq ft across four levels, the space features clean lines, functionality and minimalism, all unified by a soothing colour and material palette.

Originally a printing plant from the late 1970s and early 1980s, the building underwent significant reinforcement to create a homely atmosphere for its occupants. The expansive textile design studio encourages teamwork and creativity, with a skylit meeting room that floods the area with natural light, enhancing fabric and colour evaluations. Comfortable and aesthetically pleasing chairs are strategically placed throughout to enhance the workspace.

The building’s exterior boasts a raw, textural appeal with a limestone façade. Inside, a diverse material palette — including marble, wooden parquet flooring, terrazzo tiles, sisal carpets, wallpapers, mouldings, veneers and cork walls — creates a tactile haven. Each floor has a distinct identity, with colour schemes ranging from warm beiges and earthy browns on the ground floor to greys, dark greens and terracotta on the upper levels.

A standout feature is the rooftop cabana, designed as a recreational space for relaxation. Adorned in a terracotta palette with rich textures and surrounded by nature, it offers a tranquil escape from the urban environment. This thoughtful integration of textures and materials not only reflects the company’s textile expertise but also fosters a serene and inspiring workplace.
