Set against the picturesque Li River in Pingle County, Guilin, lies the newly renovated Dream guestroom, within a creative guesthouse called The OtherPlace. Artistically built for the modern, digital era and encircling the concept of an alternate world, the enclosure is a beautiful mimicry of virtual creations, bringing complex illusions to life.

Inspired by the works of visionary graphic artist M.C. Escher, world-famous for his depictions of ‘impossible constructions’, the guestroom is designed along similar lines and gives way to mind-boggling architecture. A thin line differentiates tangible from make-believe in this spectacular new concept. Gravity-defying stairs and doors inclined at bizarre angles are just a few features of this unconventional creation.

All traces essential to the real functional world, such as electronic devices and lighting apparatus are smartly kept out of view, behind black-painted doors, not breaking the ideal, fantasy world charm of the space. The soft pale pink and mellow white palette of Dream renders the interior space serene and surreally fresh, transporting you to a parallel illusionary existence, far from the chaos of mundane daily life.
