MUMBAI
Enjoy a pictorial narration of Indian mythologyFor the first time in Mumbai, Artisans’ is all set to host a solo exhibition by National Award winning Patta Chitra artist Bijay Parida, titled The Dancing Line. In Patta Chitra, cloth or palm leaves are used as the canvas instead of paper. The artworks on display are rooted in the worship of Jagannatha, an avatar of Lord Vishnu in the temple of Puri, Odisha. The theme of these paintings mostly revolves around mythological stories and folklore.

Reinterpret boundaries dividing territoriesArt writer and critic Meera Menezes will unveil Here Be Dragons and Other Coded Landscapes, a series of artworks curated by her. “Here be dragons” was a term purportedly used by medieval cartographers to denote potentially dangerous territories on the map. This exhibition offers artists a chance to sketch maps from an individual perspective, resulting in unexpected linkages and a complete reimagination of geography.

Feel the magic woven by natural fibresTextile designer Priya Ravish Mehra will be revealing a collection of mixed media works at Threshold Art Gallery. She has drawn inspiration for this exhibition from an ongoing stage in her personal life. She uses the traditional darning technique on natural fruit fibres as a metaphor to indicate unexpected changes that sometimes occur in our otherwise smooth-sailing lives.

Witness a cultural extravaganzaAfter an eight day celebration in Goa in December 2016, Serendipity Arts Festival is gearing up for its New Delhi edition at Bikaner House this month. The grand event will include a crafts exhibition, photography show and various other activities. One of the highlights of the festival, the Indian Crafts: Traditions and Expressions exhibition-cum-sale by curator Manjari Nirula and museologist Jyotindra Jain will use its proceeds to support artisanal communities.

Set your imagination freeHues and Clues will be artist Sahaya Sharma’s third solo exhibition of abstract art in New Delhi. The exhibit comprises not just paintings but also mixed media works, videos and installations. Bound by clues that appear as metaphors and textures emerge like visual memories of sights, sounds and smells, there is a single thread of familiarity that flows throughout her creations.
