Annkur Khosla brings cultural flamboyance home by imagining this Mumbai den with details of subtlety and drama
JUL 8, 2022 | By Pratishtha Rana
A rather spectacular recall to the roots of one’s heritage and familial memories, this home in Mumbai, christened The Colonnade reignites a beautiful connection between the modern momentum of the city life with the rich heritage of cities like Jaipur.
The homeowner’s native city Jaipur generously dips into an Indian modern design narrative materialising into a 4,500 sq ft home imagined by Annkur Khosla, Founder of her eponymous design studio.

Underlining the brief
“The client here is a well-heeled family with their roots in Jaipur and with wings all over the globe in terms of family infrastructure. The idea was to create a space for the family to get together where they feel a connection to their roots,” elaborates Annkur.
The concept that finally shaped up was to create a colonnade and a plaza in the centre of the home, becoming the living space. The tall, modernistic arches here also geometrically resemble the colonnades in Jaipur palaces.
Tour every length of the home…
Stepping into the living area, a sprawling space stands in front with a distinctive design of colonnades greeting the eyes, while a sculptural piece with two bespoke hanging lights elevates the overall mood here.
The living room rhythmically trickles onto the balcony that bears itself open to the panorama of the city, the skyline and the cool breeze. An enrapturing artwork by Kisalay Vora rests between the colonnade.
Turn to the dining room and a large sculptural garden-like installation from Klove Design Studio dangles magnificently, its leaves crafted in cane and metal. While champagne-fluted glass shutters serve as the perfect storage essentials for the family to actively use.
Amble into the den, a space that treads on the theme of the Mumbai Racecourse with a wallpaper from the London Art Company, binding a sense of luxury and wonder together.
The ceiling for the master bedroom is interpreted as a modernized canopy cover over the resting bed. Other rooms, including guest bedroom and the kids room runs an identical design language as seen throughout the house with bespoke wallpapers sprucing up the ambience and character of each room.

A playground of witty creativity, comfort, modernity and culture, all combined, The Colonnade home in Mumbai makes design and decor a gorgeous lesson to learn. Annkur muses, “The colour scheme comprises of muted tones of beige and brown with a definitive textural quality and a pop of colour added through furnishings.”
A bespoke assemblage of furniture sits poised here, juxtaposed with a flamboyant lounger modelling a feather-printed fabric and the floors decked up with subtle texture rugs from Jaipur rugs.
A stack of chests in leather of travel valises made from Magus Designs doubles up as a statement side table, with the thinking man parametric statue inspired by Michelangelo’s David takes over one corner of the living room elegantly, making for that one conversation piece that every home must have.
