Echoing innuendos of indulgence, this 20,000 sq ft chateau by 23DC Architects in Jalandhar, Punjab is a neoclassical walk into a world of old-world charm.

The magnum opus of principal designers Shiv Dada and Mohit Chawla, the architectonic objet d’art dubbed The Grand Alabaster sits atop a stupendous plot of 2.5 acres.

Meeting the client’s instructions meticulously, the architects model a mirage draped in the drama of classical European construction.

An alluring amalgamation of antiquity and art, this residence is discreet in its display of ostentation, as it goes on to define a perimeter between opulence and obsolescence.

Mediated on a minimal moodboard of neutral and soft tones married with modest textiles, the project illustrates the image of a voluminous space. Further, factors like raised roofs bring in abundance of light and added height to the home’s design.

Quartered on one and the other sides of the courtyard are the master bedrooms. The suites also happen to be the designer’s best-loved space when it came to the construction of the project, as their rather sizeable floor plans allowed for the rooms to accommodate an assortment of elements embellishing the area.

Sequester seating, recliners, ottomans, consoles and built-in bars and mini-fridges are some facets that furnish the favoured spaces.

Forming the first floor are master suites, a guest room, a home theatre and a lofty lounge. Sheathed in a sober white, featuring lighting from Lieli and furniture from Alsorg, the feng shui of the lounge space falls in hand with the blanket design language of the rest of the property.

A solitary supplementary structure in the back of the residence, an ‘outhouse’ serves as a centre for entertaining and recreational activities. Completed with an equipped gym and indoor swimming pool, the facade also looks out for the family’s health and fitness.

“We have been really particular to stick to one theme here, as we believe that an iconic project narrates a story right from the entrance gateway to the washrooms. The story must relate sentence-by-sentence from the beginning to the end, “ share Shiv and Mohit on their design language for the project.
