Overlooking large stretches of green belts, Verdant Villa by 42MM Architecture includes design aesthetics that mirror all kinds of modernist styles. Emphasising on materiality, technology and composition, Rudraksh Charan and Priyanka Charan, founders and architects, 42MM Architecture, have conceptualised a home that represents these three design elements in a perfect synchronisation.
Designed for a young businessman, this villa is located in Bhairwah, Nepal. Spread across 11,000 sq ft, the house comprises a drawing room, a dining room, a living room, 4 bedrooms with dressers and toilets, a gym, a games room and a home theatre.
Crafted with contemporary materials like steel, concrete and glass, the interiors of the villa channel a minimalistic style but one that gleams with crisp opulence. Each ingredient of the house is tailored to form a part of a larger story that is the reflection of the aspirations, interests and lifestyle of its inhabitants. The house is styled to perpetuate an unpolished raw look in its approach. It is a unique conglomeration of bits that gets revitalised through an engagement with nature.
Showcased in this aka farmhouse, are mostly glass facades. These glass facades form the two walls of the drawing and the dining room. Facing the front lawn, these facades render spectacular views of the lush green surrounding the abode. To top this with a cherry, featured in the spaces are unconventional chandelier crowns that further enhances the beauty of the spaces.
The double heighted living room is the congruent space of the villa that integrates both the floors, the green segments together. The room feels like an independent space in itself. The semi-permeable screens in the space secure the privacy of the space and at the same time keeps it connected with the other spaces. The free standing TV wall helps encase the space yet stands out as a striking feature in itself.
One of the significant characteristics about this abode is that it is enveloped by a green blanket. With increasing pollution levels across places, having a healthy green lawn not only ensures clean air but the inhabitants of a home get to live amidst a cool, heartwarming environment. To elevate this goodness, Charan has built a mandir at the entrance foyer. He says that addition of this mandir helps channelise the positive energy from the place of worship to the entire house.
The colour palette of this villa is yet another interesting feature of this house. As it shifts between dark to neutral tones. To define this, Charan states, “The primary bedroom opens on both the ends and highlights mild yet balanced textures as the main feature of the room. It has a neat and clean vocabulary while the colour is infused through the art work curated.”
Meanwhile the teenager’s room illustrates a rustic look, with textures and materials that are symbolic of the kid’s desires. Here the furniture arrangements are made to suit the child’s evolving needs. It entails spaces for both entertaining friends and self introspective corners.
Enclosed by a comforting lawn, this idyllic modern villa doesn’t shout at passersby with loud colors, but instead it’s modern design makes a humble statement by using unique architectural elements such as angles, large windows, or a rich blend of materials. As Charan concludes, “The house is a modern interlock of greens and grays. It is conceptually designed to create a volumetric and visual interplay of green belts.”
