Artist of the Season: Eames Demetrios
JAN 3, 2020 | By Aneesha Bhadri
Multidisciplinary artist Eames Demetrios—grandson of Charles and Ray Eames—reveals the idea behind Kcymaerxthaere, a narrative of a fictional parallel universe through installations. About Kcymaerxthaere “For one, a virtual reality helmet is not needed to experience it, the installation itself does the trick. Multiple narratives are installed that transport viewers to a parallel universe in our tangible world. I love the aesthetic nimbleness of being able to explore and present an idea within a short span of time.”
Kcymaerxthaere works as a 3D narrative “It’s not the first of its kind. Humans have been doing so for millennia. Stonehenge, for instance, told a story—we just may not quite know it all. In Kcymaerxthaere, we place the observer’s imagination in the context of all data points—some obvious, several intangible—that our remarkable minds take in as a whole.” The impact of being the grandson of Charles and Ray Eames “I was fortunate to have role models who dived deep and explored topics to gain an in-depth understanding. Some of their actions, which appeared effortless to me back then, were actually challenges that gave them strength. This influenced my approach to the project.”
