Anything But Ordinary by Tania Singh Khosla

Designed by Tania Singh Khosla, Founder and Design Director, TSK Design, Anything But Ordinary is an immersive experience. Designed for The Park Hotels, to celebrate their 50th year, the book is a compendium of 10 issues of Living, an innovative design and lifestyle magazine that spots global shifts in culture.

With its subtle embossed black outer case, Anything But Ordinary is quiet from the outside, and visually stunning on the inside. We catch up with the creative visionary to understand the journey of the book. She says, “Spot, Eat, Know, Immerse, Explore, Love and Wrap – 7 exciting themes form the skeletal framework of the book.

The book is content rich and visually layered – with editorials with leading designers like Terence Conrad, SOM and Gunjan Gupta, features on artists like Sunil Gawde and Bharti Kher, and essays by writers like Alice Cicolini and Annapurna Garimela.” Separators with huge text spanning across spreads, give the book a bold and graphic identity while allowing eclectic design elements to co-exist within it. Dramatic images and illustrations are contrasted with clean typography.

Tactile and experiential, printed on different textured papers, the book invites readers to touch and explore. A photo-essay of evocative images by photographers like Leena Kejriwal and Ryan Lobo juxtaposed with poetry, capture the secret ingredients of different cities. ‘Wrap’ a whimsical array of neon wrapping papers, hidden in a transparent pocket adds an element of surprise. The book is the winner of Blue Elephant 2018 – Design for Books.
