I was asked to design this apartment at the Four Seasons Hotel Bengaluru as a “contemporary space”. Other than that, I was given free rein to choose the rest of the details, a carte blanche.

So, I put together a clean, masculine and joyful mood board, keeping in mind the hotel’s architecture as well as the stunning views from the apartment. That the clients enjoy hosting intimate gatherings with a handful of close friends became the crux of the design.

It was important to keep the layout minimal, low maintenance yet cosy. Specifically, the living room, which serves as the entertainment area, was designed to be comfortable yet stylish. A luscious Maxalto couch with trimming, plush carpet and marble-topped coffee tables added layers and lent rich tones to the residence, while pops of colour borrowed from abstract artworks.

Beyond the main lounge, an open kitchenette is placed between a window on the left and dining area to the right. A Patrizia Garganti chandelier that I had seen at Maison et Objet in Paris, last year, suspended above the sleek dining table, added a hint of sparkle to the dinette’s subtle elegance.

The spacious bedroom the suite has been kept large and serene with an Alys bed from B&B Italia, a tweed Minotti sofa, a Ravi Shankar work and a palette that perfectly balanced the yin and the yang. Floor-to-ceiling windows have been covered with drapes that open at a touch, revealing breathtaking panoramic views.

While I normally work on a wide range of styles in any project, the balance on this apartment worked out well, as confirmed by the look of pure joy on the clients’ faces, when they saw it for the first time.
