Asian Paints ColourNext 2019: A recap of the gala evening

by Nitija Shastri Apr 02, 2019 The Mehboob studio in Mumbai saw a superlative sequel to the seventh edition of the Asian Paints Colour Next of the Year. Architects, designers, and the movers and shakers from the world of fashion, gourmet, media, films, and the fine arts fraternity marked their presence for the star-studded affair. In attendance were Ashiesh Shah, Rooshad Shroff, Kayzad and Maria Leon Shroff, Huzefa Rangwala and Jasem Pirani of MuseLAB, Prashant Sutaria, Theron Carmine de Sousa, Vikram Raizada and more. Also spotted were Shefali Balwani and Robert Verrijit playfully posing in the experiential set up by Beautiful Homes. Exclusive guests were taken through a maze of creative set-ups, featuring four biggest trends of 2019 — While guests explored the grander elements of Enchanted — where mythical landscapes and lush wilderness reigned supreme, a few others found respite in Harvest, where sustainable innovation allies with bio-facturing.

Playing the witty host, Amit Syngle, COO, Asian Paints Pvt. Ltd commenced the show introducing the first trend —Adulting — with a knee-slapping stand-up show by comedian Aditi Mittal played to perfection with her intelligent, unapologetic and thought-provoking set. This was followed by Zuzana Gombosova from studio 'Malai' who introduced Malai, for Harvest — a newly developed biocomposite material made from entirely organic and sustainable bacterial cellulose, grown on agricultural waste sourced from the coconut industry in Southern India. If only the sense of smell was transient so one could linger in the heady fragrance of perfumer extraordinaire, Manan Gandhi’s powerful presentation on F-lux — the perfumer’s journey of extracting and experimenting with various concoctions bottled to make that ideal perfume. Little Shilpa's breathtaking conceptual designs are every maximalist’ dream come true. The models displayed a melodramatic vision of the trend, Enchanted, garbed in larger-than-life headgears and outfits. The finale revealed the colour of the year, Awakening — a shade of plum, alive with the dynamism of being woke. Finally, the night ended at the bar, complete with sangrias and scrumptious hors d'oeuvres.
